2. Biography Born in the French region of Alsace, Toog (Gilles Weinzaepflen) is a Parisian musician. His musical life started by touring extensively with the legendary Scottish singer Momus, in the USA, Europe and Japan, where they played with the Japanese popstar Kahimi Karie. Toog's debut album "6633" was released worldwide in 1999 and critically acclaimed: “ Imagine a 21st century descendant of French musical maestros Erik Satie and Serge Gainsbourg playing his compositions with chop sticks and a selection of synths and toy instruments and you have Toog. ” (BBC Choice). On september 2001, after his third participitation to the CMJ Marathon in New York was postponed, Toog imagined an album about love in a time of threat, with the Italian actor/film director Asia Argento and the Parisian electronic musician Digiki. "Lou Etendue" (Karaoke Kalk) inspired also by the liaison between the poet Apollinaire and Lou during WWI, entered the German electronic charts in the fall 2004. In 2007, Toog produced the real bird Cagesan's debut album "I love machine", with Felix Kubin, David Fenech, Montag, Fashion Flesh, Davide Balula, Momus amongst others. His 5th album "Goto" (may 2010) is released on Karaoke Kalk. Toog has written music for the French national radio France Culture and composed the soundtrack of three theater pieces created in France by Myriam Marzouki. Also a poet and filmmaker, Toog has published two poetry books and shot two documentaries under his real name.
